blurb.com

Ok, so this started out as a class project for my creative class but now I can't sleep without coming up with more ideas.....

I think this website is such a cool idea (Griffin maybe project 4 for next year?)

There is even a blog book section.

Choices

So much pressure is put on us to make choices. Every day, we make so many choices, from what to wear, to what to eat, to what to priortize. Some days you make bigger choices. Those days when you sign up for classes and declare majors, choose colleges and pick careers, change cities or end relationships. But, how much do all of these choices that we put so much thought and effort and stress into really matter? Is it really like the movie Sliding Doors, where you miss the train and your whole life is changed? Some people like to think that life is laid out from the beginning, that God or some other universal force has a plan for each one of us. Is life more like the movie Serendipity, where you can move and change and think you've taken one path but really you've circled back to where you started because that's where the universe wanted you? It is so hard to tell how much influence we have over our own lives, and how much of our lives is luck and chance. But, I guess that you just have to keep making those choices, continue making your plans, and hope that if the universe is going to have it's own plan for you, that it's a good one.

Worries....

Pakistani’s are getting ready to end Marshall law, which will make it a safer place for my Dad's travel. He is waiting for the end so he can open a new office in Pakistan.

Christmas Time

It Reads that way because IT SELLS!
"It elevates the mood"
And puts one in the frame of mind
The proper attitude..
To lavish guests with wondrous foods
To buy, in spite of COST...
To act as if one knows what he is doing
When he's LOST!!
But Christmas is a frantic time....
For ME, and others too!
The buying gifts, the wrapping...
And all else that we do!!
It starts with DECORATING
The house, outside and in....
My dad strings cascading lights
While I, inside BEGIN...
To open up the boxes
Of my treasures through the years
Life wondering how they fared this time
(I try to quell my fears!!)
My SANTA CLAUS collection
Is such a great surprise!
I swear that HE is really is there...
I see those "TWINKLING EYES"!
Place them just where they should be
The rooms are getting full
Of characters and colors...
So bright where i was dull!
And this is what I LOVE the most.
The way these things appear!
One cannot help but feel god
When the HOLIDAYS are near!!
Of having this GOOD FEELING
With "programs" here...and running there,
We all are just left "reeling"!
And look, instead to CALMER times
When we might just SLOW DOWN
It seems so sad, but WE MISS OUT
On all that is around!!
And, therefore, I will make a PLEDGE
This year that we will start
Not just observing CHRISTMAS
But feeling it in the heart!!
By slowing down our pace a bit...
And SEEING sights around us
And through these basic, little acts...
Our problem will be solved
And what seems insurmountable
Will MAGICALLY dissolve!
I feel good already
Have I left something out?
Or was it just that SIMPLE
To turn this thing about?

- by the issue (finally brave enough)

Teddy

Can you believe a British teacher was arrested in Sudan after allowing her class to name a teddy bear "Mohammed". The Muslims finally realized that she meant no insult to their God that they believe in. She is now on her way back to London. But can u believe the ridiculousness of calling a teddy bear anything and millions of people getting upset because of the name of a toy. I hope one day Muslims will understand our Western Ways.

The Juice is Loose...He Posted Bail

OJ Simpson was arrested in Las Vegas in a hotel rook, where he and others were attempting to sell sports paraphernalia that OJ claimed once belonged to him. He was with three friends, one of whom had a gun, and now he is now being charged with armed robbery and faces life in prison. The trio face 12 charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, coercion and conspiracy. If found guilty he will get life in prision. Maybe second time is the charm?

How do you explain him…you don’t!

Green Holiday

The European dollar and the English pound are at all time highs against the American dollar. Europeans are flocking into New York and Miami buying property that is half priced to them. Electronics and clothes are other things that are half priced to them as well. But whoever would have thought that Barney’s would cater to Europeans instead of SMU girls.

Speaking of Barney’s their concept of taking high fashion and going “green” has been a huge topic in the advertising society. I think it is one of the best campaigns I have seen and truly enjoy walking buy the store, seeing build boards and flipping through the catalog.

Party Like A Rockstar

The drink that competes with the Austrian energy drink, Red Bull, started in California named Rockstar. When you drink a little bit of Rockstar you are drinking a little bit of California. Every surfer bar in California has Rockstar instead of Red Bull because it is a dollar cheaper. Peace Love and California.

L O V E

“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaking suspision love actually is all around.” – Love Actually

It is so easy to become disillusioned with the state of the world. Turn on the news, open the paper, or just take a look outside and you're reminded of global warming's effects, the six years we've been embroiled in war, or the obsession our country has over the downfall of the likes of Britney Spears. However, this opening quote from Love Actually, spoken in Hugh Grant's heart-warming British accent, reminds me that not all is lost. No matter how much debt the country is in, or how low the stock market has plumetted, love is a constant to get us through it all. Terrorists cannot take love away from us, regardless of how many bombs they drop or planes they high-jack. We must all remember the importance of love, and how powerful it can be, because without love we'd be lost.

Science and Religion; or Religion Vs. Science

One main complaint in science and religion is that they commonly clash and act as if they pose threats to one another. The USA is based on freedom of religion. Governments have three different possiblities of religion: freedom of religion, only one religion, or no religion. Religious radicals usually challenge science, while scientists tend to remain neutral on religious views because religious theories can not be proven or disproven using evidence as proof. An interesting fact that not many religious people understand is that science has proven evolution through testing, and evolution has never been disproven. Whether you are a believer of intelligent design or creationism, the "theory" of evolution is simply a theory because of time. The delay of time that evolution needs to take place side-tracks most individuals; therefore, they just call it a theory. Religion and science should not be controversial. Science is based on evidence and testing, while religion is based on faith.

Renewable Energy

Today we are dealing with a peak oil issue. This means that we are at a time in our lives where our oil supply will be descending from now on. Besides the fact that oil is a valuable resource; it also harms our ozone layer with the greenhouse gases emitted that deplete the ozone layer posing a threat to humanity. Recently, Honda has developed a new vehicle that does not depend on fossil fuels. Instead, the vehicle runs completely off of water. Yes, H20. Hydrogen is a combustible gas that can be separated from Oxygen in water through positive and electric currents. A great contribution to this method is that it emits Oxygen instead of greenhouse gases. Sounds pretty good to me. Maybe there are more solutions to our Global Warming issue in the future. And we will not see the effects of that problem in our lifetime.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving for me means I am grateful for the end of the day.

This is what my Thanksgiving is like....

My Uncle wears a Hawaiian shirt, eats two drumsticks, three full plates of mashed potatoes, three cigarettes and a couple bottles of wine and is asking every five minutes what time it is because he has to go pick up his girlfriend.

My Aunt dresses like a disco queen and only eats out of the pots before dinner is served and undoes her pants when she sits down so she can eat more.

My mother wants to say grace.

My Grandmother wears badges that read "I can help you" and has about 10 multi level marketing jobs (many of which have to do with health and vitamins and magical patches) so she spends most of dinner trying to sell her products to the family. Still a little confused on why she is working because she is 79 years old and is saving her money for when she is "older".....whatever that means.

My grandmother pops up in conversation every five minutes to show her trim figure and how great she feels....tells us its all in the vitamins

My uncle then has three pieces of pie and gets three plates of leftovers and needs to leave right after dinner to pick up his girlfriend

My father complains about the cleaning lady hiding everything and can only find one blade for his dual electric knife and tries to leave the dinner table as many times as he can because he does not want to hear another thing about how he should try my grandmother's vitamins

My father says the bird is so undercooked that it's wings are still flapping

My mother wants to say grace

My father cooks so much food I think the entire state of California could eat with us and on top of it he makes two turkeys every year and I am a vegetarian since the age of six

My uncle is chocking on the turkey leg bone

My aunt is eating creamed corn out of the pot in the kitchen

My father calls her a double dipper

My mother wants to say grace

My grandmother tells me I need more protein and is attempting to give me turkey

My parents keep bothering me about how I am not eating anything but mashed potatoes but I had just had surgery on my mouth two days before and was not able to eat much

My uncle says pour a little turkey gravy over my mashed potatoes

I take everyone's hands to say grace and say grace

But my mother still wants to say it after I always do

My grace always ends with "I am blessed for all the food that is front of us and all the food that my aunt already ate"

This is my only family in the United States because I am the only American in my family everyone else still lives in Canada and so we actually have two thanksgivings since we celebrate both holidays.

Overall...I hate thanksgiving. I do not understand the part of starving all day and then eating a lot at one sitting and then feeling so sick that you cannot move and there is so much food for vegetarians watching that turkey cook just tops it off for me. On the other hand, I have many things to be blessed and thankful for but usually I take care of that at church, prayers and just flat out saying what I am thankful for....still confused why all the food has to be there. Hopefully next year I will not have to have surgery on my mouth and maybe I will be able to eat something besides mash potatoes.

How did everything stay up in this picture? Very cool.

No Country for Old Men

Great movie. Silenced shotguns. Compressed air powered projectiles. A bad mother fucker that can not be stopped. The only negative opinion I have received about this movie is that the ending ruins it. This is common among normal human reactions. People remember their last recent thoughts about events and the ending is unsatisfactory to most people, but their is a deeper meaning to the movie. Pay close attention and you will embrace the artistic spectrum of the movie.

Vitamin Water

Tropical Citrus Vitamin Energy
Nutrient enhanced energy beverage

Evolution is a good thing right? Just think, if you didn’t change, you’d still be rocking your calculator watch, sporting your fifth grade mullet, and using expression like “gag me with a spoon.”

Well, evolution is also a good thing for energy drinks, they’re full of artificial ingredients that not only taste bad, they set you up for a quick take off and an even quicker crash. Call us crazy, but that doesn’t sound like a smart idea. So we cracked open our 8th grade science books and learned two very important lessons. First, nutrients give you energy and second, kissing someone in your bathing suit won’t make you pregnant.

That’s why we packed this drink with key nutrients to give you that extra sumthin’ sumthin’. Things like natural caffeine for immediate energy, c and b vitamins for metabolic energy and ribose for sustained energy. So while you other energy drinks are rolling your pintos and grooving to your 8 track decks…we’ll just be over here with our ipod, prius and this cool thing called “the future”

One sip is the equivelant of ten coffees. Not only does this drink make the little hairs on my neck stand up, my heart race and another three hours of energy but also the quotes that come along with it.

Even sometimes I think I can jump over a car!

You should have listened...

Being a junior at SMU and using an apple computer. I ask my father if he would consider buying apple stock with my personal stock fund money he claimed it was to expensive at 45 dollars today its 185 and his only excuse is the word...oops!

RAVE

I have never been to a rave but for some reason this is what I feel like it would be like. I had fun editing this photo of my friends. My neighbor described his rave experience to me as the best time of his life, but said that he would never do it again. He said it was really trippy because all he recalls from his drugged out haze is that one hand would flow slowly and the other one would bounce up and down quickly, and he found this to me extremely entertatining at the time. It was a very interesting description, and it sounded like he had a good time. I think it was something I would like to do just so that I can say I did it, kind of like when I toured the sewers of France.

President

I think we are going to have our first female president Hillary Clinton. So far she is leading all the poles. Lets see if a woman could turn this mess around. Unfortunately, no one in my family likes her and we might be moving to Canada if she becomes President because we all have dual citizenships and I am graduating a semester early just incase!

Just another picture I edited....

Crashing Waves

I feel like I am living in a fish bowl in Texas. I used to find my way home by following the water but in Dallas there is no ocean. I miss the waves, the wind blown bleach blonde hair, and the sand between my feet. These are some pictures I have taken and edited and it was fun to do but really made me miss what I call "home".

Dance Like No One Is Watching

This is a picture of my friend Chloe. The thing I love about Chloe is that no matter where we are or who we are with or how formal the situation is she will always break out dancing when she hears music. She might not be the best dancer, but nothing stops her. Chloe dances as though no one is watching, and never lets what others think get in her way of dancing. When she is in the moment nothing can bother her. Sometimes I wish I could be more like Chloe... not let the little things get to me, not care what anyone thinks, and dance like no one is watching.

Night Cap

Is she going to bed alone?

Little Anger....

I do not have much to say about this...I think my picture and editing speaks for itself.

Vanity Fair

I feel like I have left one bubble and went straight into another. Newport Beach, California is forsure a bubble and most people can tell from the shows like the O.C., Newport Harbor High, Laguna Beach High, and the Real Housewives of Orange County. Then I moved to Highland Park in Dallas, Texas, which could be a suburb of Newport Beach and reminds me a lot of Beverly Hills. People are all into their attractiveness and pride. Same clothes, same cars, same restaurants. Some things never change.

What happens when you drink too much?

When going back through my photo albums at first I was like maybe I should delete this picture and then I realized it was something interesting to write about for my blog. This picture reminds me of drinking and driving and the feeling you get when you have had one too many. Hope no one out there drinks and drives...call a cab if you start seeing this way! Do not attempt to drive home. Drink Responsibly!~

What's your drug of choice?

I HAVE A DRUG PROBLEM....the past two times I have gone into surgery they have not been able to put me out. Some say I have a high drug tolerance others say I have a drug problem because I am always on some kind of prescription drug. My mom calls me a "lemon" because I have so many problems and she teasingly says she would switch me in if she could. I have been prescribed Valium, Ativan, Xanax, Vicoden, Prozac, steroids, almost every antibiotic, every allergy medication on the market and the list goes on and on (way to much to type for this blog)…..the funny thing is I have a high perscription drug tolerance but I have a low alcohol tolerance. So I would have to say alcohol is my drug of choice, which is probably for the best.

I LOVE NEW YORK

If you have seen the show I Love New York posted on VH1 I feel bad for you. The entire show (much like all of reality shows) are completely scripted and fake. Come on. This no name woman got her own reality show from being on Flavor Flavs reality show. She was terrible and the most controversial character in his show. This shows that T.V. has gone down hill. Probably because it is a lot cheaper airing reality shows because you do not have to pay for the actors; and you get a bigger following. I hate reality television, but at the same time I think it is a genius business move.

Styrofoam

Styrofoam cups and plates are commonly used. Harmful chemicals are in this material. If heated in a microwave it can pose a threat to your health. Stay away from Styrofoam and stick to glass. Plus it is not even recyclable. Bad news.

The Pity...

The tv series Dallas is the same as the OC....the same bitches, same dresses, same attitutes. Puke! It is all about money and its all about luxury and themselves. it has nothing to do with the real world. Hopefully TV gets better and they start making shows that actually make a difference in the world rather than just people showing off.

Money...Money...Money

Canadian dollar is stronger than the American dollar and as a result, Detroit car dealers are advertising in Toronto Canada newspapers. They are advertising for Canadians to come and buy cars in Detroit. The Canadian economy is extremely strong and the American economy is extremely weak. This is a deal for Canadians because American auto manufactures are really hurting. Thus, Canadians have a strong economy and are coming across the boarder to buy American cars. Who ever would have thought the “Looney” would have passed the “almighty American buck”. Fortunately, for me I am on both sides of the fence because I have dual citizenship.

How to travel with airlines today

1. Always order a special meal...Indian, Muslim, Diabetic, Vegetarian...ect because personally prepared and really much better than the mass produced glurp.

2. Bring your own solid foods

3. Buy a large bottle of water just before you board

4. Sit in the aisle for short domestic flights (easy to get up and walk around or go to the facilities). Conversely, sit at a window for extended flights so no one has to step over you in the middle of the night or get hit by the cart as it is going by.

5. Wear shoes that are slip-ons [do not need hassle of shoe laces either before or after security) easy to remove on the plane (no feet swelling)

6. Take a large zip up bag and put your cell phone, loose change rings, bracelets, watches and two good pens in the bag and store on your carry on. No need to fumble at security check point...once your through take the bag and put all your stuff on

7. If traveling to a hot country and then a cold...do not pack two sets of clothes...send one set via UPS or Fed Ex and then return the other the same way when you get to your second destination

8. Bring a bottle of hand sanitizer incase of unsanitary conditions

9. Bring a good book and a charged Ipod in the event of visual/audio troubles

Newport Harbor The Real Orange County?

Is it a crime to be defined by where you go to high school?

Should parents think I wonder if my child’s school will be on TV? Or the next big Reality TV show? Should this affect their decision?

Am I defined but what high school I went to because it is now a reality TV show?

Should this affect me in getting a job? A boyfriend? Or even a casual conversation?

What happened to the diversity? I rember walking around campus and over 50 percent of our school is hispanic. What happened to the goths, the jocks and the nerds?

I am defined by this?

JUST DO IT

Horizontal Intertextuality:
This reminds me of an ad for the Olympics.

Veritical Intertextuality:
I also see the energizer bunny with the slogan "keeps going and going".

Teritary Texts:
Personal:
"My roomate says it is inspiring and makes you want to do something such as jumping the hurtles in those shoes. Very powerful"

Public:
"Great Nike Commercial" - youtube viewer and "Awsome" -youtube viewer

Hillary vs Obama

I thought this was really funny. I am a republican but I am voting for Obama this year and even though they did bash the canidates...I still thought it was a unique video!

Blind Dates

I am so not that type of girl to go on a "blind date". Last night though I conquered my fear and had a lot of fun.

Starbucks

"The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don't know what the hell they're doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino." - You've Got Mail

Your drink at starbucks is what defines you. It is a search for an identity in a complicated world.

"Beauty"

Who decided what beauty is? How far back does beauty go? What if beauty was large ears? Or one eyebrow? Or rolls of fat? How incredibly arbitrary are our standards for beauty?

October 1, 2007

iPhone Commecial

I liked this cmmercial because it shows how the phone has changed over the years but the greetings have not. "hello" is still used to answer the phone but the actual phone has changed dramatically since it was first introduced.

Creative Genius

This picture describes the difference between a creative genius and an intellectual genius. Sometimes you can meet a person and right away you may think that they are not smart or have book smarts but they could be very creative. There is a difference betweeen being creative smart and IQ smart. For example, Andy Warlock is a genius, he is a creative genius. He might not be a genius on exam taking but he is deffinetly a genius when it comes to creativity. I thought this picture was a good example of the difference between creative and intelligence.

The "V" word...Vegetarian

I decided to be a vegetarian at the age of 6 and by 6 and a half I was a complete vegetarian. My reasoning at this age was because it made me "feel better" when I did not eat meat. Both my parents are heavy meat eaters and thought this was a phase that little kids went through but little did they know it would be a choice that would stick. The most popular question I get asked when people find out I am a vegetarian is "what do you eat?" I think this is one of the funniest questions because I can eat anything I want. For the most part, I can find something on a menu thats vegetarian or just ask them to hold the meat. Today, there are tons of resaturants who are now are offering vegetarian menus on top of the regular menu. Most people do not understand the difference betweeen vegetarian and vegan. So to clarify, vegetarians still eat dairy products and vegans do not consume any dairy/animal products. I am a vegetarian because I still eat cheese, ice cream, and eggs. Hopefully next time you meet a vegetarian you won't be so confused.

Chaos Theory

"The O.C generation". Or, should I refer to this as the overly instant communications generation? This is the high tech era that gives the Class of 2009 its multi-dimensional personality. Our access to superior technology is by far a luxury, yet with it comes a high degree of responsibility. As an impressionable young adult growing up today, there exists a continual media forum that is constantly sending messages out to society. We rely on the internet, television and mobile phones as lifelines every day .
As a young adult, I watch the ten o'clock news only to be inundated with alluring advertisements, negative images of global catastrophe, and hard news segments. How am I as a student supposed to process these overwhelming digitized messages? The focus on such tragedies as the war in Iraq, the death tolls of the Virgina Tech masacare, and awful terrorist bombings create a sense of fear and hopelessness.

September 27, 2007

Got Milk?

The signfier in this advertisement is Superman. When you think Superman you think strength and that is what milk gives you when you drink it.

Symbolic:
When you see super man you automatically think strength.

Ionic:
Superman is literally a super hero.

Indexical:
You find superman in the sky.

Flexible.....like a straw!

I have been trying to think of differnt ways to advertise using different forms of media. I came acorss this advertisment for a yoga center and thought it was a great idea. Staws are flexible and that is what most people think of when they hear the word "yoga". I thought it was a great way to advertise.

Why does everyone keep asking me?

I just do not understand why in the past 2 weeks EVERYONE has been asking me if I am going to move back to California after I graduate. Why are people asking me this now? I still have another year here. I mean I plan to move back eventually in life but I for now I plan to go where life takes me.

Are you the next great poet?

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/27/books/27laur.html?ex=1345867200

This article was kind of a big deal for me because I am going to admit something on my blog that only a few people know about me. I am a closet poet. I have a few poems published, but only my parents, a teacher, my best friend, and the publishing companies know this.

Maybe one day I will add a poem of my own on my blog...as for now...I think I'll continue to write alone.

Drunk...E-mails

Some Rules - Wendy Cope

Stop, if the car is going "clunk"
Pr if the sun has made you blind.
Don't answer e-mails when you're drunk.

You fire something fierce. You're sunk.
It's irretrievable. It's signed.
You feel your spirtis going "clunk."

Don't Hide your face with to much gunk,
Especially if it's old and lined.
Don't answer e-mails if your drunk.

Don't live with thirty years of junk-
Those precious things you'll never find.
Stop, if the car is going "clunk."

Don't fall for an amusing hunk,
However rich, unless he's kind.
Don't answer e-mails when you're drunk.

In this respect, I'm like a monk:
I need some rules to bear in mind.
Stop, if the car is going "clunk."
Don't answer e-mails when you're drunk.

This poem inspired me one evening when I was sitting around wondering about drunk (insert action). For example, we started with "drunk dialing" then it moved to "drunk texting" then to "drunk e-mailing" then to "drunk myspacing" drunk facebooking" and now "drunk blogging". I was a little intoxicated when I thought of this post, but the next day it still made me wonder. Just something amusing to think about... I wonder when people began thinking that it was okay to do these things while intoxicated. Perhaps, because we are more open as a society now, we find it more acceptable to communicate casually, and we get as casual as being fully intoxicated when we do communicate. We also think we're a lot more interesting when we're drunk, and think other people must think the same, so feel the need to communicate, express ourselves, and share our "great" ideas. It is a little disturbing, though, when you wake up to see texts that make no sense, or a phone log of lengthy calls you can't recall. Maybe I need to start hiding my computer away before I get drunk, or monitor my communications better. I mean, how much of a lush do I really want to look like?

Lttle thngs I woner when I hvehad 1 2 mandny drinkkkkkkkkkkks!?!!!!@#$%^&

How do you cut your sandwich?

I have a theory about how you cut your PB and J sandwich. If you cut you your sandwich at a diagnol, you probably had a more liberal upbringing. On the contrary, if your sandwich was cut straight up and down you most likely had more of a conservative upbringing. My theory might sound a little crazy, but I believe it's true. One of my friends has a conservative mother and a liberal father, and she is one of the few people I know who switches between cutting her sandwich diagnoally or straight down the middle. How do you cut your sandwich? Mine is straight up and down.

What's on your hands?

I love black and white photography! I think this is a great picture of how one side of your hand (world) you see everything you love and the other what you hate.

skinny/fat

Did you know there is a thing called skinny/fat? Research has shown that women can be technically "skinny" but have a high BMI. There is a difference between being skinny and being healthy and I feel in today's society this a huge problem and needs to be looked at. Many girls think that if they do not eat and are skinny that they are okay but in reality they could be damaging their body even more. Are you a skinny/fat?

Camping = not showering, mosquitos and eating junk food

How many sorority girls does it take to set up a tent? I went to Oklahoma with my friends for the weekend and it was the first time I have ever gone camping. Lets just say it was an experience I will never forget. We had a lot of fun but seeing a bunch of SMU girls camp is definietly a site to see. I came out of the experience with a realization of not knowing where the big dipper is, how loud my friends can be and a trip to two frogs restaurant but as they say, there is a first for everything.

Make a move

In my innermost thoughts, I wonder to myself how I can make a difference. There must be something I can do to help those less fortunate. I feel as though it is my responsibility as a privileged American to do something, to make some type of difference. I sit in front of my laptop computer sipping my bottled sparkling water, reading the CNN news brief, and feeling ridiculous for not being able to take action. I know I can make a difference in the world catastrophes; at least a minor one. I feel a sense of guilt as I sit among the comforts of my home of plasma televisions, Ipods, and digital picture phones. My heart tells me that there is something I can do. I cannot board the next flight abroad, but I can choose to influence my peers, thus creating a joint effort in immediate aid. As I head off to my next sororiety meeting, I would ask friends in an effort to collect funds and immediately forward them to a worldwide organization such as Unicef or the Red Cross. With this thought, my guilt eases me as I immediately instant message my girlfriends to assist me in this endeavor.

Seat 1A

I never know the time, the day, the place, or location of my father......

My dad travels more than anyone I know. Some of my friends think he works in the mafia, others think hes a drug dealer and my roomate thinks hes is superman.

My dad travels 300 out of 365 days a year. He is not a domestic flyer anymore instead he spends his nights traveling from country to country. He has 2 passports; one Canadian and the other American. He flies only first class seat 1A and has hit over 1 million miles on 5 different ailrines.

But to me he is just my daddy.

Can you tell I have had my heart broken?

I drew this picture when my x-bf and I broke up.

"We grow a little every time we do not take advantage of somebody's weakness". - Bern Williams

This summer my mother and I threw potlucks every Thrusday. Anyone was welcome to come and we had people of all ages get together to make food and hang out. One evening, my mom's interior designer brought cards that had quotations on them and we had to pick one and read it out loud. This was my quote and I was really interested by what it had to say about mankind. I feel this quote is moving because it makes you stop and think of how much the people in today's society take advantage of other people's weaknesses when the opportunity presents itself. People take advantage to get ahead in business, relationships, and friendships. Think of how much people would grow if they could stop themselves from taking advantage of others when they saw the opportunity to. If they could take a step back and stop themselves from thinking only of trying to get ahead, they might instead appreciate what they do have in the present rather than what they could have. I think this quotation could teach us all something and make us consider how much respect we give to the people we encounter on a day to day basis. I believe the world would be a very different place if people considered the effects that their actions have on others, and I do think that people could grow drastically from thinking before they act.

Click "Yes" if you're over 18....

Why do websites make you click "yes over 18"? I just do not understand why websites think this question is going to keep children out. Most 12 year olds know to click "yes"- it is not hard to figure out. Also, when they ask for your date of birth but you have to be a certain age to go on the website...I feel most kids can do basic math and figure out what year they were born to be old enough for the website. I think that this protocol needs to be re-evaluated and it needs to become a little more difficult for younger children to not have access to such sites.

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 - 'Big Drive' TV Ad

Is it just me or is Tiger Woods looking at something other than the girl's swing? If you watch the video twice, as I did, once on TV and then again on youtube, you begin to realize that Tiger seems to be checking this girl out. His eyes seem to be wandering up and down while they show a picture of the girl bending over to set up the ball. At first, I thought it was just me being a perv but when I asked my friends they all agreed that Tiger was looking at something more than checking out her handicap.

Drinkin' Time

Fast Forward this clip till 1:46 where it says "and now the prank".

This clip was filmed at Dartmouth University and basically starts off with a bunch of parents and adults listening to a guy talk about the school (college tour). A bunch of the students at Dartmouth decided to play a prank on the tour. I think this was one of the most creative pranks I have ever seen/heard of. What do you think?

Hello. My name is....

I am a west coast, laid back sailor and a strict vegetarian, that has somehow wound up in Dallas, Texas without an ocean and with lots of steak eating cowboys. I might seem to fit the typical California girl stereotype. I miss the beach, and some might think my vegetarianism makes me a hippie, but I’d like to think I’m not so one dimensional. I definitely have my ups and downs, and many different complexities and eccentricities. My car license plate reads “oneissue”, which is also the title of my blog, and as much as you would like to know what my the issue is, you will have to follow my blog to figure it out….
